Housing Development Plan

The Housing Development Plan is our review of local housing policy over the next 15 years. If adopted it will form part of the development plan against which we will determine planning applications for housing.

Housing Development Plan

Over the last three years we have been gathering evidence and investigating options for a review of planning policy for housing in the National Park. The objective is to widen the range of more affordable housing for the benefit of communities living and working in the park. The preferred strategy for doing this is to release small sites for affordable local housing in towns and villages with services.

We invited landowners to suggest potential sites. We sifted these to shortlist the ones with capacity for development. This involved consulting key stakeholders whilst also keeping the process open to public scrutiny.

At the beginning of June 2010 we published a draft Housing Development Plan for consultation. This attracted a lot of comment and at its meeting on 30 November 2010 the Authority considered a Report of Consultation and decided to amend the Plan and move it forward to the next stage.

The Yorkshire Dales Housing Development Plan was submitted to the Planning Inspectorate on 10 October 2011 for the purpose of formal examination in public. The submission documents consist of the following:

In addition to the submission documents the Housing Development Plan is supported by an Evidence base.
