The Dales Countryside Museum is an important education facility for everyone who wants to learn more about the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
It tells the story of the people and the landscape of the Yorkshire Dales past and present. Hands-on interactive displays, a ‘Landscape Choices’ CD-ROM, audio points, digistories temporary exhibits and events, all help to bring learning to life.
Current education provision at the Museum includes:
Museum Gallery Visit - FREE self-guided tour of the museum galleries
School Loan Scheme - provides real and replica objects for use in local schools
History Detectives - students can use real objects and archive information to investigate historical themes on a visit to the Museum
Discovery Trails - lead by experienced and knowledgeable leaders around Hawes and Wensleydale
National Park Talk - one-hour slide presentation, introducing the Yorkshire Dales National Park
Education facilities here include:
a teaching room and exhibition hall
Research Room
object handling and loans collection
printed education materials
interactives exhibitions and education programme
There is something for all age groups and levels of study. All activities offer plenty of scope for preparatory and follow up work. Support materials are available for group leaders and older students on all key themes.
Groups leaders can choose individual activities or mix and match from those available, to create a programme for a full or part day visit or longer.
All of the activities listed are led by experienced staff and none of the outdoor activities fall within the scope of the Adventure Activities Licensing regulations.
Teachers are welcome to visit the Museum free of charge to familiarise themselves with the facilities.
For further information, please email the Museum and request a free Dales Countryside Museum Education Pack and Group Booking Form.
