To help you plan your walk, the map below shows the location of stiles and gates on Open Access land. We have also provided this information as files which you can download to your GPS. Gates may be open or locked and this should be taken into consideration when planning a route.
Check also for up to date information on any closures or restrictions on Open Access land by visiting the Natural England restrictions web page.
During 2008/09 all Open Access land in the National Park was surveyed. This has been a significant undertaking as 63% of the National Park (approximately 1,117 square kilometres) is now designated Open Access land under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act. The information on the map is therefore accurate to the best of our knowledge. We are aware that there may be some inaccuracies in the information provided as situations can change.
We have provided this information in the formats that we think most appropriate, but welcome your comments and suggestions in order to help us improve this service. Please contact us at access@yorkshiredales.org.uk.
Please take care when using Open Access land and ensure that you are properly prepared and equipped for your visit. You can find more information on our Open Access pages and by visiting the Natural England website.
Remember that 96% of the Yorkshire Dales National Park is privately owned. Please respect the livelihoods of those that live and work here whilst enjoying this beautiful place and follow the Countryside Code at all times.
