The weather in the Yorkshire Dales can be very changeable as anyone who as ever visited before will know. Some people say that you can get all four seasons in one day! This can make planning what to bring on your visit a problem and if you are walking in the hills then an unexpected change in the weather can sometimes be quite dangerous if you aren’t well-prepared. Luckily there are plenty of places that you can go to get up-to-date weather forecasts.

The Met Office issue a daily mountain area forecast for the Yorkshire Dales that can be viewed on their website. Click the logo image to go to the forecast.

The Mountain Weather Information Service provides forecasts for many of the mountain areas in the UK and the Yorkshire Dales National Park is included in a forecast with the Peak District National Park. The forecasts can be read online or downloaded as PDF files and are also available on mobile devices.

A forecast based just outside the southern boundary of the National Park.Hetton
This is the nearest available forecast for Settle, Ingleton and Ribblesdale. It is also very close to Malham, and is the closest forecast to Grassington and Wharfedale.Sedbergh
In the far west of the National Park, this is the nearest forecast for Upper Wensleydale and the Howgill Fells.Leeming
Based north east of the National Park, the forecast from Leeming is the nearest one for Hawes in Wensleydale, and for Leyburn and Richmond in Swaledale.
