Collection and archive


Typical Dales farming artefactsThe Dales Countryside Museum collection incorporates the North Yorkshire County Council collection of artefacts. The majority is on public display but there is also a reserve collection stored on site.

Appointments to view the reserve collection must be booked with the Museum.

Please allow two weeks for the reserve collection to be prepared for viewing.

Local Study Room in use at the MuseumYou can use a computer to browse our Out of Oblivion website which is a great resource for finding out about the historic environment of the Yorkshire Dales.




Research Room and facilities

New for 2009 - we now have research facilities open 7 days a week 10-5pm which include:

  • Archive and Census material
  • Members of the Upper Dales Family History Group on site every Monday to help with enquiries
  • Internet Access, Microfilm reader and Microfiche
  • Primary Resources for local history research
  • Macfie and Calvert Archive to view by appointment
  • Refreshment room
